Our latest delivery direct from Sicily this week has brought Tarocco Blood Oranges harvested by our producers from their Giardino from the last two fruiting trees of the season.  This year weather conditions have caused the citrus season to be shorter than usual.  The last fruits are varied in their blush and bursting with juice and have more sweet than bitter notes now.  Also on the pallet are a few boxes of Kumquats.  Late in the season, their sharp flesh is complemented by a sweet skin, making them delicious to eat unpeeled and ideal for use in both sweet and savoury dishes.  If you are unfamiliar with them, watch out for the surprisingly large pips for such small fruits.

Also, from Sicily we have crunchy red Tropea Onions, tart, full-flavoured Marinda Tomatoes, early season creamy ‘white’ Zucchini (courgettes), heavy purple, white-streaked Aubergines and large rustic Red Peppers.  Going into late spring and summer, we won’t have Sicilian citrus, but lots of other good things will be arriving regularly.
